Prescription Assistance Initiative

Prescription Assistance Initiative

Another initiative of the Foundation is an effort to make medical prescriptions available at no or low cost to those who qualify for prescriptions under the plans offered by a number of pharmaceutical companies. This initiative takes many forms but all involve the use of RX-Assist (www.rxassist.org), a web-based software package originally developed by the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation. Since each pharmaceutical company has different and complicated policies and forms for their own program, the use of a central software source that keeps the requirements and forms up to date and facilitates data collection and refilling of prescriptions minimizes the paperwork for those in need. This program works primarily for low-income persons who have a need for long-term prescriptions. Savings in the millions of dollars have been realized in Bexar, Comal and Kendall Counties. Over $1.9 million have been devoted to this initiative to date.
